Alternate title: My Hands

A sort of slow burn, this song maybe fits in better thematically with With Distance but I think its slots in well here as well. It's the first title I came up with for the album, but it was the last written and recorded. Funny how that turns out.

lyrics

I woke up lost inside my head
Thirty-nine past ten
And I rolled the body out from my bed
And I remembered something it said

Well, I looked around and found the light
The switch flicked up, and right
Took a moment to adjust my sight
Then I looked down at my hands and my hands, they weren't mine

Well, I looked up and down the body
In the full-size mirror on my bedroom door
And I didn't quite know what to think then
Maybe already too far gone

I can't remember the last night my hands were mine
All I remember is the morning after
When I stared at my fingers in the light through the blinds
And I knew that my hands weren't mine

I looked down at my hands, and my hands weren't mine
I looked down at my hands, and my hands weren't mine
I looked down at my hands, and my hands weren't mine
I looked down at my hands, and my hands, they weren't mine

I'm never ever ever gonna do it again
Yeah, that's what I said, what I thought that I meant
But you know I'm just gonna do it again
I forget, I don't care, unimpressed, I'm a wreck

When you set yourself up for failure, you'll find it's hard to succeed
When the walls start closing in on you, it's hard to know what you need
And whenever someone asked me, I'd always say I'm fine
I couldn't bring myself to tell you:

I looked down at my hands, and my hands weren't mine
I looked down at my hands, and my hands weren't mine
I looked down at my hands, and my hands weren't mine
I looked down at my hands, and my hands, they weren't mine

Oh, the nails aren't cracked and bleeding
At least not most of the time
It's like gloves of skin my fingers are in
When I look at these hands of mine

I looked down at my hands, and my hands weren't mine
I looked down at my hands, and my hands weren't mine
I looked down at my hands, and my hands weren't mine
I looked down at my hands, and my hands, they weren't mine
